Meltdown and Spectre
Google’s Project Zero team recently discovered a vulnerability related to all Intel-based systems running world-wide, long story short – there’s a security flaw with the way in which the CPUs deal with virtual memory processing;
New kernels are being prepared by Linux communities, once released (we expect within 24 hours) we will begin testing on a small number of hosts before rolling out to all hypervisors world-wide.
In doing so we will need to reboot all HVs, which we will schedule in waves, and out of hours.
Following the HV reboot we will also need to patch the virtual machines as those patches become available. This may require further reboots out of hours as we patch each Virtual Server individually.
These vulnerabilities are also present on personal computers so it is advisable to make sure you are running the latest version of your operating system and that it is patched with the latest security updates.
