How WordPress Improved Google Ranking
Improved Google Ranking when converting to WordPress
The theory is sound that if your website is built in a system which is SEO (Search Engine Optimised) aware that you should get an improved Google ranking. It’s always good to be able to show evidence of how effective it can be, and I am able to do so with a simple chart below.
I was asked by a new customer to update their existing site which was built in a proprietary website builder system which was going end of life. After the usual discussion over how rebuilding their site in to WordPress would be a good idea, I began the work. There was also the added bonus in that the new site would also be mobile friendly!
It’s important to note that no specific SEO was carried out on the existing content, just recreated almost word for word. There were a few pages which had content updated, and a few spelling/grammar mistakes corrected.
Chart notes:
- The WordPress site was switched live on the 9th of June 2015
- The chart shows the daily average position of all the monitored keywords
- The closer the line is to 0 (zero) the better the overall ranking
Summary
As you can see the site was static over the preceding 3 weeks before launching the new WordPress site. Almost immediately you can see that the average SERP (Search Engine Results Page) has increased. In normal speak it means that most pages have improved their position in the Google search results. The line in the chart will fluctuate up/down as Google is continually monitoring not only this website, but also the competitor websites who are returned in search results.
In this case study WordPress has improved Google ranking for this website.
